Victim ID'd in Tab Roberts Road crash
Mon, 5 Jan 2009 21:18:38 EST    Comment   Gwinnett police have identified a man killed in a single-car accident early Sunday on a curvy road in unincorporated Lawrenceville. Benjamin Ellerd IV, 24, was killed when his 1996 Honda Accord left Tab Roberts Road, traveled down an embankment and slammed into a wooded culvert. A neighbor discovered the vehicle around 8:40 a.m. Sunday, said Gwinnett County Police spokeswoman Illana Spellman. Ellerd died from injuries sustained in the crash. Investigators still aren't sure what caused the accident, Spellman said.
Gwinnett might have interim budget
Mon, 5 Jan 2009 18:14:10 EST    Comment   The Gwinnett County Commission will consider an interim 2009 budget Tuesday designed to shrink as the year goes on. Commission Chairman Charles Bannister presented a $1.4 billion proposed budget in December, but it carried a $43 million deficit that would have tapped into the county's reserve fund. Bannister assigned county administrators to chip away at the deficit and hone the budget further. The first fruits of that work will be included in Tuesday's spending plan, according to County Administrator Jock Connell.

"It's so hard to just watch them walk away and I can't even hug them goodbye," Jackson, awaiting trial for burglary, said Friday, her eyes moist with emotion and her green prison jumpsuit the lone splash of color in a spare, cinderblock room. "It's the hardest thing about being here."
24-year-old man dies in crash in Lawrenceville
Mon, 5 Jan 2009 11:27:23 EST    Comment   A 24-year-old driver was killed early Sunday when his car veered off Tab Roberts Road near Lawrenceville and crashed at the bottom of an embankment, Gwinnett County police reported. Preliminary investigation indicates that Benjamin Ellerd IV, of Lawrenceville, was driving a green 1996 Honda Accord east on Tab Roberts Road near Suwanee Roberts Court around 2 a.m. when the accident occurred. The Accord careened off the roadway and went down an embankment into a wooded culvert, where it smashed into several trees, said Gwinnett Police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman. A neighbor discovered the wreck around 8:40 a.m. Sunday and notified police, Spellman said. Investigators on Monday were still trying to determine what caused Ellerd's vehicle to swerve off the road.
Putting tax districts on hold is OK because of economy
Mon, 5 Jan 2009 11:17:42 EST    Comment   One upside to the down economy is that the Gwinnett County Commission's surprise December decision to delay creating three tax allocation districts shouldn't have much impact on redevelopment efforts, advocates of the tax districts say. That's because there won't be much interest in any kind of development until the economy begins to improve. "More likely than not we wouldn't have a project ready until the end of the year anyway," said Joe Allen, executive director of the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement Districts.

Gwinnett downsizes sales tax estimates
Fri, 2 Jan 2009 18:23:33 EST    Comment   Hard times are pinching Gwinnett's penny sales tax before it goes into effect. The county is downsizing its revenue estimates for the special purpose local option sales tax, approved by Gwinnett voters last month. Alfie Meek, director of the county's economic analysis division, said the tax was expected to bring in $850 million over its five-year term beginning in 2009, but that estimate was calculated two years ago.

The 2008 Real Meaning Of Christmas
12/24/2008 7:46:37 PM
jes

by Tom Livsey,

This Christmas season, every family feels the crunch of our economy. But with the lack of clutter from the large numbers of gifts and presents under your Christmas tree, you might be able to understand the real meaning of Christmas, this year. Its the love of Christ and the love of your family and friends.

The most important lesson that you can teach your children this year is to show them your love and affection,by spending a good time with them, because even when they get tired of playing with their toys,or when their toys break, they will always remember that family love is unrelenting and unbreakable.

Real Meaning of Christmas
12/24/2008 10:24:05 AM

By peace

The Real Meaning of Christmas
Two thousand years ago the King of Kings was born.
The Lamb of God later made to feel the thorn,
If his words are accepted and not scorned,
They will make us all reborn.

Though Gods grace, Joseph and Mary presented
A gift to the world that day, which we can all repay,
by living the ten commandments each and every day.

Try to remember and keep in your heart and mind
Jesuss gospel while here on Earth,
Redemption not a life lived in constant mirth.
Peace on Earth, good will toward man
Everyone should try it, whenever they can.

The Lord gave us the option and choice of free will,
Now its up to us to fit the bill.

So when youre Christmas shopping for family and friends,
and money is tight at both ends,
Remember that the greatest gift of all,
Is your love of Jesus in the manger stall.
